Sapphire

Sapphire, with its deep blue colour that evokes the night sky, is the gemstone of September. A symbol of wisdom, nobility, and fidelity, sapphire was considered an amulet of protection from physical and spiritual harm in antiquity. In the cultures of ancient East, sapphire was considered a sacred and powerful stone. It was believed to confer protection from evil influences and bring luck and prosperity to its wearer. In ancient Greece and Rome, sapphire was associated with the goddess Athena (Minerva for the Romans), a symbol of wisdom, protection, and divine benevolence. Numerous sovereigns and historical rulers have worn jewellery with sapphires, both for their intrinsic value and their symbolism. Among these are Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom, Queen Victoria of England, and Queen Fabiola of Belgium. Princess Diana of Wales was known for her sapphire jewellery, including the engagement ring with a large blue sapphire, now worn by Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge. In the modern world, many actresses and Hollywood stars have worn sapphire jewellery for special events and red carpets. These include Elizabeth Taylor, Audrey Hepburn, and Angelina Jolie, who have made sapphire even more popular as a symbol of elegance and style.
